What a winter I am having. I have been off line for awhile. My computer crashed and now I am trying to get everything back up and running. I have been busy knitting socks. I have a request from my sister in law in Alaska for socks. I had made her a few pairs a few years back and she called to let me know she needs more socks. Of course I was thrilled to know she loved them so much.
I have also been busy with my part time job and trying to do some sewing.
Hopefully I will have pictures up and running soon but I just wanted to let you all know I missed you and hope to be on more often.

My daughter's Christmas Tree....

I have been busy finishing up last minute gifts. I keep telling myself that I would not stress out but I do it to myself every year. Saturday night we went to my daughter's house in NH....she had put up her tree. Well, we were sitting there admiring it and all of a sudden it started to move forward....thank heaven my grandson was sitting in the chair right next to it and he made a great save....the tree is now tied...Looked beautiful. My daughter and I did some sewing before dinner and I finished a table runner for my dining room table. I am planning on doing my decorating today and tomorrow seeing as I am off from work.

My daughter's cat had kittens...almost ready to leave their mommy. I had to take some pictures. They are so cute and each one has such a personality. I am so tempted to take one but I don't think the two I have would like it...the two I have still don't like each other....

Well this is not getting my decorating done and I have two pair of fingerless gloves to make. My granddaughter asked if I would make her some as she loves them when she runs.

IT'S ME AGAIN

Not much going on here. I am busy trying to finish a scarf and mitts set that I am knitting. My sweaters are done and ready to be wrapped. I am also working on quilts and table runners as gifts for certain people.
I thought I would include a few pictures from last summer. These are four of my grandchildren, Tyler 4, Sarah 6, Cheyenne 4, and Paeton 3. They don't get to see alot of each other but when they do they are best of friends.

Here they are again. This was at the local Old Home Days in July. Fireworks at night and all.

I will try to post my scarf when it is finished. It is black so I am not sure how it will come out.

This is the one I am working on right now. I tried to get a close up so you can see the pattern. I have made this sweater for just about everyone of my grandchildren. I am working on the sleeves right now. Hope to have it finished the end of the week so I can move on to my scarf.

I don't know where the time has gone. I keep checking in and haven't posted as I have taken on a part time job and just didn't have much to post about......I am busy knitting Christmas gifts...fourth sweater is on the needles right now. I am also on my second quilt and also doing table runners. I will try to post this weekend.

First up is my little garden behind the house. I know it is nothing compared to some gardens but it is mine and makes me happy.

This is by our side door...my tomato plants..with all the rain I am surprised we have any but they are loaded...

I promised Pat of Pat's Knitting and Quilting that I would post my quilt pieces. I have never done a quilt like this one but I have been reading books by Jennifer Chiaverini, the books are the Elm Creek Quilt series. I have just fallen in love with the books and it has peaked my interest in the star quilts. The one below is "Isabella"

Wow two posts in one day....this is a picture of my daughter and son in laws...I just love to sit on their porch and knit or just enjoy the peace and quiet.

This is a scarf...Karaoke Pattern...love this pattern , very easy and no brainer...yarn is some stuff I picked up at Walmart...but love the feel for a scarf.

WHERE HAVE I BEEN

Gosh, I don't know where I have been...actually I have been right here checking everyone's blogs daily but I just haven't had much to post about. The rain here on the east coast has been so depressing and I just have no energy. I have been knitting. I have one sock done and started another pair. I know I really need to finish the mate to the first one. I will try to take some photos and get them posted.
I am also working on a scarf.
Hoping that everyone had a great 4th. Mine was quiet but nice. Hubby and I went to my daughter's in NH. Her and her husband have a farm and have a farm stand. Corn is not ready yet but he has the best corn ever....We had steaks on the grille with nice green beans and a wonderful cabbage dish and roasted red potatoes.
I have been checking my quilting books also and I think I am going to try making a quilt with lots of stars. I have been on the web look for stars of all the states....it will be a project but a fun one.

Weekend of knitting while camping

It looked like it was going to be a good weekend for camping last weekend. I forget that I am in New England and that could end fast. Hubby and I headed out Friday night to set up the tent and get ready for a nice weekend. My sister, brother and his wife met up with us on Saturday morning. I always bring along my knitting and convinced my sister to bring hers too. My sister in law doesn't knit...but my sister is making socks for her. She made a pair of pedicure socks for our niece and now my sister in law wants a pair.
Saturday was just a gorgeous day and we had a nice breakfast over the campfire...bacon and eggs always taste good when cooked over the fire. We decided that after lunch we would rent a canoe and go canoeing...or I should say the rest of them decided to rent the canoe. I wanted to sit at the campsite and knit....well, I went for a very quick canoe ride and asked to be brought back to land so I could relax and knit...Canoeing is not my thing...I am not thrilled being on the water.
So here I am sitting back at the campsite with my knitting. It is hard to see but I do have it in my lap. I have a neat little sock bag that I carry with me and it is attached to the chair. Well, I had started a pair of socks at home and thank heaven I decided to bring other yarn with me as well because I really wasn't happy with the pair I had started at home. They looked way to big and loose. So I started another pair and then decided to rip out the first pair. I now have two pair of socks going and I like the pattern much better. As soon as I have more done I will post pictures.

Here we are out in the canoe....my hubby, myself and my sister. My brother and his wife were in another canoe and took the picture.

Here is out tent. Now let me tell you we love to tent. but, Sat night we got rain...and we stupidly didn't tighten the top and we got rained on....luckily we weren't far from home so the three of us at 1 am headed to the house. My brother and his wife are sound asleep and dry in their little tear drop camper. At 8 am we headed back to pick up the tent and things and went home where the tent is now set up in my yard drying out. Yes, we will go again as we just love it.....

YESTERDAY

We had a big family BBQ and birthday for my Mom...she is 86. It was so much fun with all the family and friends. I haven't downloaded any pictures yet but I will try to do it later today.

I have an aunt who is learning how to knit. She lives about 3 hours away from me so I am not there to help her out all the time. She brought her knitting with her and we just had such a good laugh over it. She is making a baby sweater or I should say a toddler sweater. Well, the front and back are nice but, the sleeve...that is another story. I really should have thought to take a picture to show everyone. The sleeve had to be like way too big...she knew she had a problem but thought she was doing just what the pattern called for and I had to explain to her that when she got to the arm area that she had to decrease for the raglan...well it said 18 inches for the length and she thought it meant 18 inches then decrease ....I got her on the right track...my mom and I ripped it down to where she should be on it and the funny thing is that the second sleeve was coming along nicely. I told her that I make both sleeves at one time and that just threw her for a loop. Mind you this is a lady who made mittens years ago and the thumbs were going downward instead of upward...we laughed over that one. I must say the sweater part was very nice....she is a little nervous about putting the sweater together and I told her I would help her with that one. Wait til she gets to the neck part...I didn't tell her that one yet.....anyway, she crochets like no ones business....I know she can conquer this sweater. It sure is fun teaching someone how to knit...they get so excited. I showed her my socks on 4 needles and she laughed...she said she has a hard enough time with two needles...let alone 4...I think I will show her the circular needle next...LOL

Anyway, I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

A FEW DAYS OFF

My friend, Jeanene, arrived on Wed. night. She was suppose to be here at 3pm but because of the lovely weather here on the east coast she was delayed. The poor thing arrived in NY to find her connecting flight had been cancelled. The airline set her up for a flight from NY to DC where she could catch a flight to Portland ME...problem was....the flight wouldn't arrive in ME until 11pm. What's a girl to do but go with it....she also found that somewhere along the way, she is thinking in NY because they had to empty her carryon, that she lost her new camera. So she arrived here alot later then she planned and minus her camera. She bought a card for my camera and used it. We made the best of the weather and the situtation and had a GREAT time. She left this morning and I miss not having her here.
See the friendly creature we found on the side of the road in the White Mts of NH. Jeanene kept saying she wanted to see a moose and a moose she saw....

We went to Kennebunkport, Walker's Point....this is my sister Nancy and myself...Jeanene took the picture.

This one is taken in Kennebunkport, myself, my hubby and Jeanene...We shopped around and took in as much as we could..We were lucky that the sun came out that day and it was wonderful.

This is Jeanene at the White Mts...NH...The Flume...her and my hubby took it in while I waited in the coffee shop...It was sorta nasty, rainy and I just didn't think I could take the walk...they found it rather challenging with the rushing water but totally enjoyed it...

Here are hubby and myself...this is at Wiley's House in the White Mts...this was always one of my grandparents favorite spots and I always stop when we go to the mountains....

AND....while in Kennebunkport...or Kennebunk Lower Village we stopped at the YARN store...I was very disappointed when we went to NH as I mapped out two yarn stores and NEITHER one was there...I don't know where they went or why they have a web site but they weren't there...very disappointing....but here I am with my hubby and sister trying to decide which yarn to buy....I ended up with more Happy Feet yarn and my sister picked up some Happy Feet and some angora yarn along with a new scarf pattern....

I guess that is it for now....the sun is shining and I have a house to clean....Happy Knitting

WEEKEND

There really isn't much going on with me in the knitting front. I am plugging away on my socks but my granddaughter asked if I would make her some scrub tops...of course Grammy would love to do that for her. I had some material on hand so thought I would make one to see if it would work size wise...well the girl is so tiny I have to take it in more then I thought...her mom was here yesterday and brought me some material to do two more for her....I am hoping to work on it tomorrow.

My friend is arriving on Wed. and she will be here until Mon. so the knitting and sewing will be on the back burner. Of course I checked the weather and it sounds like rain on Wed, Thurs and Fri....does not make me happy. I am sure we will find lots to do even if it is raining....We plan to go to the White Mts of NH...shop a little in N Conway ...she wants some gifts to take home to her mom. If anyone out there knows of a yarn store in that area could you email me and let me know...I am always looking for something new..

Today we are heading to my brothers for a BBQ....thankfully he has a nice screened in porch in case it rains. Hubby and I spent yesterday in the yard..we planted day Lillie's and he put my screen house up for me. My aunt gave me lots of day Lilli's and between her and my daughter they tell me they will thrive and even spread...I am hoping so. I will try tomorrow when the sun is out to get some pictures to post. I also have my gorgeous oriole feeder that has attracted the orioles so I will try to get a photo of that for you. So have a great Memorial Day and say a prayer for all of those that have served and are serving this great country of ours.

We went to my daughter Jill's on Mother's day and most of my kids were there....this is Isabella my son Rob's youngest...she is so happy and is just starting to roll herself around the floor. She loves to stand and I don't think she will be crawling...she will go right into walking...

My granddaughter Jacqui was there along with my great grandson Brock..I just can't believe how much he has grown.

Now I will show you the yarn for my next pair of socks. I just love working with this yarn. It is called "Happy Feet". I don't know if you can see the colors that well in the photo but they are greens, purples and goldish....I can't wait to see what they will look like when worked up...

I finished my sweater a few days ago....It came out a little larger than I had hoped ....I have used this pattern many times but this time I tried a different yarn...I love the yarn but not so sure if I would use it again for this pattern.....

May I present a picture of Master Brock Higgins...my great grandson...He makes the funniest faces...so cute.

Not much to show knitting wise here...I have been working out in the yard when the sun decides to shine. I do have my sweater done...well almost done....I just have to knit thecollar and block it and then I will post a picture. I did start a mate to my sock one night.
My husband and I have the WII fit and that is what takes up some of our evening time...we both want to lose a few pounds. It really is fun to work with and keeps us on our toes.

NOT MUCH GOING ON HERE

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am reading posts but haven't done much knitting these past few weeks...We are trying to refinish a room in the house and it is taking most of our time. This past weekend I did get out and do some yard work. We have lots to do since the ice storm. Hubby started burning some of the tree limbs in our fire pit and yard is looking up. My daughter was up on Saturday and bought me the most beautiful Oriole feeder. I have bird houses all over the place and she felt I needed an Oriole feeder....I do hope they find it.
I do have some new yarn that I need to take pictures of and will post when I do. I am also getting ready for a visit from my friend in Michigan...she arrives on May 27th....Looks like a crazy week here weather wise...sun and clouds and maybe some rain....can't wait for summer and sitting outside. I do have a nice porch and sit out there ....my cat loves it too..

My daily visitor

I have been busy this week with spring on it's way. We are finishing up our bedroom..pictures will follow soon I hope. Every morning I have a visitor...my friendly wild turkey. This picture was taken before all the snow melted. I have about 12-15 of them that show up now and again but this one shows up every morning and every evening. I am fighting the dang squirrels around my bird feeders and I think I am winning the battle.

I finished my karoke scarf. I am not sure who will receive it but I sure enjoyed making it.

I received a phone call from a dear dear friend today. She lives in Michigan and she called to let me know she is planning a visit. It won't be until the end of May or early June but I am so excited. She lived with us in Las Vegas for a time and we have not seen her in almost two years. We have so much we want to show her while she is here in Maine.

I have been working on socks and have some more sock yarn to show but that will be in a later post. I just wanted to let you know that I am still here and busy knitting.

EASTER

We spent Easter with our daughter and lots of relatives. Great day and great meal.
This is the new addition...our first great grandson....Brock. He is just one month old.. Here are the proud parents, our granddaughter Jacqui and grandson in law Keith with Brock. I can't believe how relaxed and comfortable the two of them are with the little one. It was such a joy to see them.

Of course we had to take lots of pictures so here is another one of the new mother with him.

I haven't done much for knitting this week. My husband and I are trying to paint and put down carpet in the room downstairs and make it our bedroom. Very large room and I just can't wait to get it finished. We , or I should say me....bought paint ...ah problem...didn't cover well so Sat we went to Home Depot and bought some Behr paint and were told it would do the job....The new rug is white with grey going through it....I know it will look great when it is done but boy getting there is a job. I have things all over the place....I had to move my sewing machine upstairs in the dining room...I am working on a quilt and helping my sister do hers...she hasn't sewn in sometime and she is doing a bang up job on her quilt. I will post pictures when we are done.....I had a problem with mine as I thought I had some tan material...I did ,but then remembered I used it in another quilt so now I have my quilt on hold until I can get down to buy some more. I do have material for another quilt which I may start later this week.

On another note...just want everyone to know that my daughter Pam, LULA KNITs...she is under the weather...she hasn't been feeling well for a few weeks and she is under the doctors care...Keep her in your thoughts and hopefully she will be up and running very soon.

FINALLY MY COMPUTER CAME HOME

I was without my computer for almost a week...seems that there was just way too much on there and it needed a good cleaning. I can't believe how lost I felt not knowing what everyone was knitting.
First up are my Dublin Bay socks...or I should say sock...it needs a mate but I was busy working on......

my Karaoke Scarf...I am not sure how long I will make this....I know most of the young kids like long scarfs.....I really like the color and the way the blues and greens flow together...I have a few people who would like to have it but I have not decided who the lucky one will be as of yet. Of course I had another project that I wanted to get going on....so

here it is....I have had this pattern for years and I think I have made it for most of my grandchildren...I just love this yarn...It is a dk yarn from Berroco.....the red doesn't seem to look as red as it is in person....I would like to make a matching one for my two granddaughters....

We are going to my daughters for Easter and our new Great Grandson will be there so I am planning on taking pictures...come back and check him out....he is such a cutie...

We went to a 3rd birthday party for our granddaughter yesterday and while there we took photo's of the 5 generations.
First picture: My Mom, myself, my daughter Jill, Jill's daughter and my granddaughter Jacqui and my dad holding the new baby Brock.

This is a picture of my dad who is 88 and the new baby who is 1 week old.

Next up is My mom and dad with the 3 youngest grandchildren, Mom is holding Isabella who is 4 mos. the birthday girl, Paeton (Isabella's big sister) and my Dad holding our newest family member Brock 1 week old.

We had a wonderful time and the birthday girl made out like a bandit...I think most of her gifts had a Dora the Explorer theme...
After the party hubby and I headed over to our dear friends for a wonderful dinner...Today I plan to work on my knitting....My daughter gave me some yarn yesterday and I think I might look for a pattern for a sweater for baby Brock. Looking forward to our next weekend where I can spend sometime with my daughter Pam and hopefully some time with my two grandsons..... Will post later in the week and maybe with some knitting photos...

IS IT SPRING YET??

Well, the news says it is spring...but I don't feel like it is as of yet....I have been very slow on working on any projects this week. It seems like I can't get out of my own way. I started a pair of socks about 4 times...ripped out and started over...I just can't decide which pattern to make with my yarn. I started out and realized they were coming out too small...so rip out I did.....then they were too big...by this time I am thinking I need to start something other then socks....maybe I am tired of doing socks...NOT
So I went looking for my notebook with all my other patterns...found a scarf pattern and started that....but I kept looking at my sock yarn sitting there and picked it up again. Now I have two projects going (two new projects) I have others going too...I also came across one sock missing it's mate...do you think I can remember what needles I used and now I am thinking it is going to be ripping again and start over...does this happen to any of you?
So, last night after dinner I decided to work on my socks and what happens...my little project is NOT where I left it.....but the ball of yarn is in my basket...not attached to anything. So I suddenly realize my darling cat, Sedona, has taken the sock somewhere....I found my project at the bottom of the cellar stairs, missing two needles and stitches coming apart. She knew I was mad at her...she never does this and I was surprised .... I think she is mad at me for something. So I had to rip back on the sock and start over...Last night before I went to bed I put the sock away where she can't get to it.
I am hoping today will be better then yesterday and I will accomplish somthing with the sock.
Next week we are going to Massachusetts for the weekend and I plan on a trip to the yarn store....maybe I will have some pics to show by then...

ALMOST FINISHED

First up are my zig zag anklets....I am using Debra Norville sock yarn. This yarn is very soft and I really like the colorway. I promised myself that I would finish up some of my socks before starting another but this yarn just kept calling me. I am hoping to have one done this afternoon and then I promised myself that I would complete the Dancing tulip sock.

This is the Dancing Tulip sock....I have one done and the other is so close to being done ,but as you can see my zig zag yarn overtook me.....Don't you just love this coffee mug....my aunt gave it to my husband years ago as he would always tell her "don't to sweat the small stuff."....I think of her whenever I drink from it...see, don't sweat the small stuff I WILL finish the sock!!!!

Here is my kitty "Sedona", she is waiting for me to pay attention to her. She says "put the yarn down Mom and pay attention to me".

I guess that is it for this post....I want to get busy on my sock...I am fighting a cold and hubby has the cold....I guess it has been going around as everyone I talk to seems to be feeling the same way.
Oh, did I mention that I joined a dish towel swap....I have never done a swap but it sure sounds like fun.

NEW SOCKS AND A GIFT

First I want to show you a picture of the snow...I just loved the way the sun was coming through the trees. My poor birds don't know what to do as this is the tree where their feeders are hanging. Not to worry, they found the feeders and are fed daily.

This is yarn that I bought a few weeks ago while I was at A C Moore.....It is Debra Norville yarn.....very soft and I just love the color. The socks are going to be ankle socks with a zig zag cuff. I don't know if you can see the cuff that well but I do like the pattern.

This is a little bit more of a close up...I just love my Harmony needles too. I took this yarn and my needles to my daughters last weekend as I wanted to learn how to do "toe up" socks but my daughter Pamela who was visiting does hers on circulars and I didn't have mine with me so I never did learn. I guess I will have to get some circs and try finding a tutorial on the net....of course I am going to her house in March which will call for a trip to her yarn store and I will more then likely buy yarn and maybe the needles and she can then show me how to do them.

This is a counting bracelet that my daughter Pamela gave me over last weekend. I just love it. She had someone send her one and then she made one for herself and seeing as I loved it she made one for me and one for my sister who is just learning how to knit. I will say my sister is doing very well with her knitting. She has made two pair of socks and is now on her second pair of fingerless gloves. She made a pair for her daughter in law to be and when her sister saw them she requested a pair. I told Nancy, my sister, that was a nice compliment....always nice to have someone like your knitting so much they request something.

Snow and lots of it

Yes, we had more snow last night. I woke up about 1am and there was no power...I figured why wake my hubby what was he going to do. I crawled back into bed and fell asleep. My cell phone rang which woke me and it was my sister calling...it was now 5:30 am and she wanted to know if we had power. I told her no and she told me not to look outside.....well I did look and boy was I surprised.

Then this afternoon I went into the basement for something and heard water...thank heaven I went down when I did as the water heater sprung a leak...My husband was home which was a blessing and was able to shut it off. The plumber just left and we are in good shape.

I started a new pair of socks this afternoon. I am just finishing up a pair and just needed to start a pair with my new yarn. I am not sure if I will like the pattern until I get further along but I will post a picture when there is something more to show on the needles.

GRANDKIDS AND FUN

We had a fun weekend with the grandkids. First up Grampy with two grandsons feeding the birds. The little one, Tyler, is very much Grammy's boy but did agree to go out and feed the birds. While out there he helped Grampy doing some shoveling...of course big brother, Devaun, was helping but enjoyed throwing little brother into a snow pile.

Next up is the baby shower for oldest granddaughter, Jacqui....she is due March 9th but we are taking bets that she will go before then. She had three different baby showers and this baby will want for nothing...he has so many clothes and I am sure he will never wear them all unless she changes him hourly.

The cake was delicious....killed my diet but worth every bite....

And here she is mother-to-be.....she is anxious for it to be over...said she wants to see her feet again.

LAZY DAY

Just a short post this morning as it is a very lazy, snowy day here. I have done all my house cleaning and now plan to sit and knit....Early today I went through my stash and decided that I should finish my socks that don't have mates before casting on anything else...it is going to be hard to do.

SPINNING

Well I dug out my spindle and roving and thought I would show you a picture. It has been so long since I pulled them out that I forgot that I had two spindles.. The one on the left is a little harder to see as it has white roving.

My husband is the one who got the hang of this before I did....maybe this weekend or early next week we will have more to show you. I am not sure if I have enough to make anything when I am done but it is fun to try.

Baby shower coming up Saturday for my granddaughter. Looking forward to seeing everyone and I just know that my daughter , Pam, will have my counting bracelet ready for me...

GIFTS AND MORE GIFTS

I just love birthday's......I just received two books from my darling husband...I am going to look through them very carefully and try to figure out which ones to do first. There are just so many nice ones I don't know where to start. I have been wanting to get some nice handpainted yarn and make some socks. I have to read up on "pooling" gosh I glanced a little at the book and there is just so much to take in...."pooling" hmmmmm,,,hope I can figure this all out.
I also found a pattern that I had bought last fall for some "toe up" and "short heel". I was a bit confused when I read the pattern but my daughter told me that I would love it when I gave it a try. It was new to her and she fell in love with the "toe up" so I guess I can at least try the pattern. I actually have the yarn for that sock, (I forgot to take a picture of the yarn) in a yellowish-greenish colorway...hard to discribe but I will post a photo later.

Last night my son, daughter in law and the 4 kids came over for dinner. My two year old granddaughter was so excited about Grammy's birthday. Below are the gifts I received.

My Little Frog for the garden. We just moved into our house last fall and I have lots of room for garden's. He will have a place right outside my back door as I plan to do an herb garden there.

Of course I needed some tools and gloves and along with those I got two stepping stones...I LOVE butterflies and dragonflies so they will have a special place in the garden also.

We can't forget the birds.....I plan on getting a nice post to put this one and put it outside my kitchen area so I can see it when doing dishes and such.
After we opened gifts we had pie, instead of cake, and of course my little granddaughter made sure that everyone sang Happy Birthday to Grammy. I only wish I had the video camera running as it was so cute. She is very dramatic.....

This first picture is the sock that I am working on for my hubby. The yarn is "Happy Feet" but I am not sure of the color. It is reddish and if you click on the picture it brings the colors up much nicer. My husband is anxious for me to finish the socks as he wears them to work over his regular socks and he says they keep his feet real warm ,especially when he has to go outside.

Now this sweater is just some scrap yarn that I had laying around and I was getting tired of the socks so I decided to make something different. I started out with the idea that I would do just a plain simple stocking knit sweater but, when I had the back and front done realized that I would not have enough for the sleeves and neck. I went back to my yarn stash and found some white and this is the end result.

My last project is my baby quilt. I am very pleased with the way it turned out. I don't know if you can see the print but it has little teddy bears. I just fell in love with the material and found the matching green so here we are finished up and ready to be wrapped. This is going to be for my "first" great grandchild.

I was home all day today waiting for the Direct TV folks to arrive to straighten out my TV. The dang thing kept freezing up on us and I could not TEVO anything which upset me as I tape my soap opera every day. Don't you know I missed the past three days.....and that doesn't make for a happy Carol. While I waited I decided to go through more of my stash and I think my next project (along with my hubbys second sock) will be a scarf. If it looks half way decent I will post a picture in a few days.

I am also waiting for the mailman to bring me a package. When it arrives I will post a picture..Until then Happy Knitting.

A KNITTING QUESTION

I have come across and old pattern for a sweater and I am not sure how to figure the amount of yarn needed. Years ago everything was done in ounces.....it calls for 8 oz of knitting worsted...what would that be in today's knitting language? My math skills are gone by the wayside.

SPECIAL SOCKS

My sister has been after me to take a picture of the "first" socks she made as she forgot to take one before she gave them to me.
I think she did a very nice job on them and I wore them to work yesterday. They were nice and warm. Here they are drying on my washing machine.

We ae in the middle of a big snow storm...they say 15inches. We came home from work early today....I only work now and again with my sister but boy what a miserable ride home. I am sure we will wake in the morning to lots and lots of this white stuff. I will try to take a picture or two tomorrow and post.

BUSY WEEKEND

This is what my house looked like early Saturday morning...The ice is just coated on the porch windows. I just thought it was so neat I had to show it.

This is an icicle hanging off the back of the house....I did notice alot of houses around me are looking the same. It was a gorgeous sunny day but it sure was cold and windy.

We took a trip to our daughter's and went to see our 10 year old grandson play basketball. I couldn't get a good picture of him as he was constantly moving around on the court...but, I did get a picture of his little brother watching him play ball. He is so dang cute I want to squeeze him. Notice his shirt. He stuck to me like glue all day. He was so much fun....he had to sit with me, eat near me and I was the only one who could put him in and out of the car...of course that made me feel good. We played with his toys and when we were leaving to come home he gave me two little toys to take home and told me I could play with them but just don't let my cat get them...

This is my latest project. I tried different ways to take the picture...here they are sitting on my lap (those are my pj's by the way)....the pj's made them look more pinkish but they are really red....I am making them for my husband. Just plain ole stocking knit stitch...something mindless while I watch TV. I am still working on my "Dancing Tulip" socks but they require my consentration. My sister is getting into the knitting thing now...She even organized her yarns and has a nice little canvas tote that she put everything into. She started another pair of "Fetching" mitts...I am not sure who they are going to be for but they are a purplish color. I am also getting her started on quilting...she brought her sewing machine over to my house and set it up in my sewing room Then today we went to buy some material....she is planning on a quilt for her son.

PROGRESS

I just finished one sock, Dancing Tulips, by Monica.

I can't wait to finish the other one. I used "Happy Feet" and I have to say this is wonderful wonderful yarn.

You can see in the corner of my picture my sweater waiting for me to finish it. I just have the sleeves to do and will more then likely work on it later this evening.

I am sure I have mentioned that hubby is a "Chef" by trade...I never do the cooking but now that he is working, not as a chefthough, and I am retired ,I have taken on the chore of cooking dinner. Tonights dinner was a nice pork roast and he just couldn't get over how wonderful it tasted...He said I out did myself. Of course I had to remind him that before we met I did do the cooking and funny thing, my four children all survived it. I know they had a few meals they really didn't care for and kid me about them today but I am sure their children will do the same to them one day.

Well, I am off to pick up the needles but I was so pleased with my sock that I had to show it off and when I put it on my foot-----Heavenly.

This is a quilt that I made for our newest grandchild.

I am working on a sweater for one of my granddaughter's.....I am starting my knitting projects early for Christmas next year. With 15 grandchildren one must plan ahead. Not sure if this will fit the 5 year old but it will fit the 3 year old one.

I wasn't sure if the color would come out so I took a few shots.....the color is a very bright coral.

I finished a WIP----it is a green sweater and I will post that one in my next blog. I was hoping it would fit my 3 year old grandson but if not I can put it away until my great grandson is ready to wear it.

They say we are in for a very cold cold cold snap.....this is my first winter back in New England and I must say it is an adventure. A friend of mine lives in Michigan and she calls me a day or so ahead of the bad weather to let me know it is coming my way. She also lived in Las Vegas but moved back home when her father passed away. I am trying to talk her into coming for a visit here in Maine and maybe one day she will want to move here..

Just finished the sweater for my new great grandson....just need to find the right buttons for the neck area.... The color is a very pale blue but it looks white here.

Well, my sister tried to make booties....they came out so large....she ripped them out and now is going to try to do a baby sweater....I will say her socks are so nice and the fingerless mitts were loved by her future daughter in law.

I like it....but I am hoping come Tuesday that I will like this even better as I have the cable guy coming in and connecting me to high speed...I am on dial up right now and can not do anything....

I am working on a baby sweater and dying to show it off....My sister is making booties...she is really getting into the knitting thing now that she has made socks and fingerless gloves....she does keep asking me "am I on a knit row or purl row.." I bought her some stitch markers for Christmas that said Knit and the other said Purl...now I need to show her how to use them....

My mother was busy before Christmas making hats and mittens for the town...they were requesting the items for needy children...I had to go pick up more yarn for her today....I guess they are going to thank her when they have their next town meeting that is televised....

THE HOLIDAYS

We have had a busy holiday season.. A few weeks ago we went to Mass. to have our Christmas with my daughter Pam...we had a wonderful time...We even found time to hit the yarn store.

On our way home from her house we stopped at my husband's daughter's and spent the afternoon with them for Christmas...Now mind you neither one of our daughter's had gotten a tree yet so we spent Sat with Pam decorating her tree and Sunday with Paula decorating hers..Paula's two boys were having a blast....we got to open gifts and have some fun foods....

We spent Christmas morning over to my son's and watched the little one's open gifts...This was such a thrill for us as we haven't been home with family in 5 years....the afternoon was spent at our place and my daughter, Jill and her family along with my other son, Andy, and my folks and sister spent the rest of the day with us....we had such a good time over this holiday...

Grammy and Grampy are going to babysit on New Year's Eve for our two youngest grandkids. I am sure I will be exhausted by the time the New Year rolls around but it sure is fun.

On the knitting front I surprised a few folks with socks and more socks...I also made hats and mittens. I got some wonderful socks from my sister, who I just taught how to knit....I was so surprised.

I am now starting to work on a baby sweater for the new great grandbaby that is due in March.

I also got some Red Yarn from my young nephew....I had made Christmas stockings for his brother and sister years ago (they are now in college) and he wants me to make him one as big as their's.....so I have a little project to do for him...I think I will make his bigger then their's..lol

IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME

It has been awhile since my last post with alot going on in my life...First we moved to Maine in September. My dad had been ill most of the summer and we traveled every weekend to Maine from Mass to look after him. We decided to check work out one day when we were there and my husband landed a good job, which he loves, and a house came available right up the street from my folks.....things just seemed to happen so fast and we love it in Maine...
I have retired and spend my time knitting and taking care of the house and making sure Dad is doing alright. He had to give up his license and that was a traumatic event for him. I understand he felt he was losing his independence but he just isn't strong enough to drive...
We just had our 15th grandbaby.......Isabella Grace.....I would like to show a picture but I am at my daughter's and forgot the camera cable.....
I am hoping to get our computer at home connected right after the Holidays so hopefully I can connect with my knitting friends again...I really miss you all.

PRINCESS CAROLINE SWEATER

I finished my little sweater just the other night. I love this pattern, it is so quick and easy. I had the pattern years ago and misplaced it but while visiting with my sister a few weeks ago she told me she had one. Well, I was just thrilled and ran right out to get the yarn and here it is. This is going to be for my new grandaughter who is expected in November.
Don't you just love the doily that it is laying on....my mother made it....she makes so many of them and I have them all over the house.
I have so many projects to do....oh, and I am trying to teach my sister how to make socks on 4 needles...Now that is a treat....she called me the other night to ask me how many stitches she should have on her needles...I told her that when I come to visit on Mon night that she had better be ready for me to show her how to do the toe.....I will let you know how that one goes.

I am also working on socks and another baby sweater, actually three more baby sweaters....I have a niece who is expecting and my granddaughter is also expecting...That will make me Great Grammy in March...

I am over to my daughter's for the afternoon...we get together almost every Sat and have a knit day....next Sat we are going to my Aunt and Uncles for a "pig roast"...we will have lots of family there and of course friends....We will let you know more about it in our next post.

I AM HERE

I have been away from knitting and the computer for the past two weeks. My dad has been ill and had to have emergency surgery two weeks ago. He had a mass which turned out to be cancerous and they feel they got it all...it was in the upper colon. While recuperating he went into cardiac arrest and thankfully they brought him back to us. He is 87 so things take awhile to get back to normal. He is now in a rehab and we are hoping to have him this week.
On the knitting front I taught my sister how to knit with 4 dpns. She is making some socks. She is in Maine and I am in Mass. so I told her when I come up next week I expect to see her ready to do the toe. LOL
I also found out that I am going to be a GREAT GRANDMOTHER in March. My granddaughter and her husband are pregnant....I will be a Grandmother again in November. So that will be 14 grandchildren and one great granchild...Yes, I am going to get busy knitting some sweaters....

Hope everyone is having a good holiday. Hubby had Wed and Thurs off and Wed we spent traveling around town again and checking out things....like the Library, a new restaurant and of course the local yarn store again.
I bought some silk yarn to make a scarf or two for Christmas gifts and more sock yarn.
Thursday we spent at my aunts and went to lunch with her and later that evening had a cookout with my aunts (two of them) and my uncles (two of them) and my cousin. We had a great time. Today I am at my daughter Pam's and when my hubby gets out of work he will come over and we are having ribs on the grille. Pam is a little sore as she pulled a muscle in her leg or something...she is on medication and it is feeling better now. They (Pam and Her Husband) are having their kitchen done over...it is looking wonderful.

I finished these socks this afternoon while sitting at my daughters pool. We had a little light shower so had to come in the house.
The weather has been wonderful other than a few showers here and there.

I started my next pair with "Happy Feet" and I am using the pattern "Dancing Tulips" by Monica . My daughter started a pair of socks with this yarn and it is really nice. I am hoping that I can get enough done on this so next time I am here at my daughters I can show you another picture.

Don't you just love the little bag in the picture. Pam gave it to me yesterday as I was using a paper bag....I have a few bags at home but they are just too big for my projects.
I guess that is it for now. I have been trying to follow everyone's blogs but it looks like everyone is taking a break for awhile. If your out there let me know. I miss your blogs.

Wednesday and Thursday were our days off from work and hubby and I decided to check our town out. We have recently moved from Las Vegas to Falmouth MA and even though we had lived in MA years ago we are not familiar with this area. We had a wonderful two days. We stopped at this cute little diner and had breakfast sitting there looking out the window I spotted a yarn store. Well, now you know after we ate I had to check it out. I had been there with my daughter when I first moved home so I was a little familiar with the store. I walked out with 4 skeins of yarn. I wish I had thought to bring them with me today ( I am at my daughter's). Anyway, after that yarn store visit we headed to Woods Hole and walked around and stopped for lunch right on the water. Wonderful meal and wonderful company. From there we headed to Falmouth and decided to park the car and walk around the town. Of course, there is another yarn store and I had to check it out. I walked out with two skeins of Paton's "Happy Feet". I have never used it but I fell in love with the yarn and the women running the store just sold me on it. I don't have it with me right now either but,,,,,,,today my daughter and I hit the store so she could buy some yarn and look what I walked out with:

and this yarn......more "Happy Feet", two skeins of each...Pam, my daughter, also walked out with two skeins of two different colors and I am sure she will post them on her blog. I am anxious to start knitting with it . We sat out at Pam's pool this afternoon and she has started a pair of socks with her new purchase. I think we are going to like this yarn very much and make more trips to the store..

This is a sock that I started a few days ago. Pam and I found this yarn and instantly fell in love with it. I usually don't do circs but seeing Pam work with them decided to give it a try. I got to the heel turn and needed a little help from her today but I am on a roll with it now. I think I am liking circs.....but my love will always be my dpns.
Anyway that is my news for now and I am glad I can share some pictures. I am not set up with a computer as of yet but I do check blogs when I am at my daughters. Happy knitting everyone.

WEDDING

I don't have any pictures to post yet of the wedding. I will post again later this week from my daughters so she can help me post the pics....the wedding was beautiful. Sadly, it was raining so it had to be held inside but as my husband said "it is a fresh new beginning and that is what the rain brings to us". The bride was gorgeous and the groom very handsome. Fun was had by all.
I think we might actually be moving into our apartment tonight...finally.
I also start my new job today...I don't have to go in until 10 am and I am hoping to be out of there by 3-4 pm....My cousin owns the place and I will be working for him so I am sure there will be no problem.

I am posting more socks. I am almost finished with one pair and I am anxious to start another pair.
This yarn is so nice to work with and I have to go back and get more.

I bought this yarn a week or so ago at a cute litte yarn store in N Falmouth, MA. I will be moving into my new apartment sometime this weekend and this yarn store is about 5 minutes away. How lucky am I.

There isn't much more going on in my yarn basket.....I am still plugging away on my baby sweater but I am enjoying the sock yarn too much to finish the baby project.

A LITTLE NEWS

I have been busy trying to get my apartment fixed up. We painted and the past week we moved boxes and such in and now between myself and my husband and my aunt Marlene we are slowly getting organized. My couch and tv should be there this week. Bed is set up and the kitchen is almost put together...we might actually be able to sleep there Wed or Thurs.
I haven't gotten much knitting done as I am dog tired when the evening rolls around and I am ready for bed by 9 pm. I did finish one of my socks and now need to make the mate. I will try to post pics this weekend.
Oh, and I got myself a job....I will be working for my cousin at his tow/auto body shop. I will be the little office girl.....trying to get him organized. I was thrilled to get the job and I will be working Mon, Tues, off on Wed and Thurs with hubby, and work Fri and Sat with Sunday off. How lucky am I???

I guess that is it for tonight. Dinner is almost ready and Marlene (oh, that is where we are staying until our apt is ready) is busy making me some fudge.......hmmm, can't wait to taste it..

Ok, so we have loaded the pictures on the computer and we can't figure out how to get them to go into the blog. Pam, my daughter tried and tried. I am going to Maine Sat with my daughter and aunt for a wedding shower for my grandaughter so I will let you all know how that went and maybe post some pictures.

WE ARE HOME

Hi everyone,
We arrived Sunday morning around 10:30. We are staying with my aunt right now until we figure out where we are going....We arrived at my daughter Pam's first...visited for awhile and then went over to my aunts...it sure was nice to get home. The trip was rather long. We had a great time in Utah...stopped to see the Arches National Park and if you have not seen it you really need to try to go...we took a little scenic tour out of there...I believe it was Rte 128...very scenic. We put up in Kansas at one point for the night and I will say and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings but boy there is not much on the highway to look at going through there....I am not sure what state we were in when we saw a sign for the "second friendliest yarn store in the US"...well, we drove around the town for an hour or more and never found it...we even asked a mail man...he didn't even know where to send us...We spent a night in Ohio...not a good experience at this motel...dirty towels...no coffee and then at 1:30 am we were woken up by the sound of a marching band....right outside of our room....seems the high school teams were having a competition and this one team that was cheering had won..Well, hubby kindly informed them that it was 1:30 am and some of were trying to sleep....do you think we could get back to sleep...NOT....anyway that was our excitement....oh no wait...we also were passing the area when they had an earthquake in IL.....we didn't feel anything.....all in all I didn't do much knitting as we had our cat with us and she just loved to sit all over my lap...I did knit in the room...so I have about a quarter of the sock done. I will have to bring my camera over to my daughters and show you some of my progress.
It is just nice to be home and tomorrow and the next day hubby has job interviews so I will let you know how that goes...happy knitting everyone.

GOODBYE FOR NOW

I will be turning the computer off over the weekend so I won't be posting until I arrive in New England. The house is packed and full of boxes. The moving truck will be here between 8am and 9am on Monday morning. I am still reeling as it has happened so fast. We are excited to make the move and it seems like the past few days are just dragging. You never know how much you accumulate over the years and why you are keeping it....We have our trip tick from AAA and plan on taking I70 as it is the quickest route. We want to stop a few places along the way so it will be fun...We can't stop for too long as we will have our cat with us and I am sure she wont' want to be stopping.
I have my knitting planned for the trip. My daughter sent me some Memories yarn and I am going to be working on a pair of socks for hubby. I have a pair of socks that I have been working on in my little sock bag that she sent me. I carry it to work everyday and work a little here and there...well, I couldn't find it last night when I looked...I have one sock done and the second sock is at the toe and almost done...I am hoping I left it on my desk at work. I don't remember bringing it home last night so I am hoping that is where it is....or it is in a box and sealed up...
Well, you all have a great day..This is my last day at work and it will be sad to go but we start a new journey in our life and soon we will be with our family. I will send you a message when I arrive so until then Happy Knitting

SOME NEWS AND HOW DO YOU LIKE MY BLOG LOOK

Well, let me start by saying that we sold our mobile and are heading back to the east coast around the 13th or so of April. We sign papers tomorrow. It sold so fast and we are still reeling. We put the sign out front and not even two hours later we had money in our hand..this wonderful lady knocked on the door took a look and wanted it...wow...we were in shock. We had a women who a month ago wanted to buy it and that deal fell through and we were just so upset..we really want to get home and now we didn't know what would happen..then Sunday we ran to Walmart and bought a sign...put it in the front of the place and here we are...SOLD....
I am so looking forward to being home...not looking forward to the long ride but I am planning my knitting projects...I am sure it will be socks all the way.....
Now, how do you like my blog...I am not the one who changed it...My daughter did from MA. It just amazes me as I couldn't figure out how to do it and here she goes and does it from miles and miles away. Oh,and when I get home to New England..you will see pictures posted...so watch my blog....
I will still be on line for another week so I will be checking in with everyone to see what projects your working on...Happy Knitting and this is not an April Fools Joke we are going home...

I'M STILL HERE

I have been reading your blogs but just haven't posted. Yes, I am still knitting. I am working on another pair of socks. The two sweaters that I had been working on need sleeves so maybe I will pick one of those up and work on it. I just found out that my son and his wife are expecting and my niece is also.
We are a bit down right now as we want to move home and the place just isn't selling. We had a buyer, or so we thought and yesterday she told us she decided not to buy it. My daughter told me to get a St Joseph's statute and bury it in the yard facing the house...I guess this is to help sell. It was an upsetting day along with the fact that the night before my husband was laid off from his job. He has a job interview back East if we can get there. So we are back at square one. My folks are leaving on Wednesday to go home and I am thrilled for them even though it will be lonely here until we can get there. We are almost thinking of going anyway and just leaving it on the market and hope it sells.
I haven't heard from the fella that was building my computer so I need to find out how that is going. I know he has been very busy and with the price he is doing it at I don't want to push. It will be nice to get it and be able to post pictures. I don't' know enough about computers to do much...Ok, happy knitting everyone.

I'M IN A SLUMP

Gosh, I don't know where the time has gone. I promise you I have been reading posts but just haven't been able to get myself to post or do much knitting.
I know some of you are in snow country and winter is long but here in Vegas it has been a "windy" winter for us. Finally the weather is getting nice and yesterday was just wonderful. Hubby and I have been doing some "cleaning" up in the yard and inside the house. He painted all my ceilings for me and also painted the hood over my stove...looks brand new.
On the work front alot of changes....we consolidated a store and that has been "fun". I feel like I am overwelmed at times with work. I have been taking care of all our SR loans and now I am doing all our court work. Thank heaven I just do the paperwork and not the actually court. I do enjoy the paperwork a bit challenging at times.
On the knitting front I have gotten the "goove" back. I have finished my little boy sweater and the little girl sweater just needs sleeves. Oh, these are for my baby wardrobe------actually my grandaughter is getting married and I am sure in the next few years I will be great grammy so I am getting ready.......I have a sock done, just needs a mate. I ordered from the Loopy Ewe last night...sock blockers and yarn also a pattern from Monica...can't wait for them to arrive.
Oh, I almost forgot....in the consildating of the stores I met a gentlemen who builds computers and he is making one for me......yahoo....just think one day soon I can post photos of my work....I can't wait....

PACKAGE ARRIVED

I came home from work yesterday to find out that my back order from Knit Picks had finally arrived. I love love love everything....well there wasn't much in it but, my new Harmony dpn's and the book "Favorite Socks". I spent most of the evening going through trying to decide which pair to make first. I have decided on the "FLAME WAVE" socks. I have not decided on the color of the yarn as yet. I am leaning towards some "watermelon" color that I have had for sometime now or I have some fixation in a multi color. I promised myself on New Year's that I would finish some of my other projects first so I have about 4 inches left on my husband socks before I can start. I also have been working on a little boys sweater and have completed the back but now need to move on with the rest. I think I will finish hubby's socks at lunch today and then start the socks.....wish me luck.
As for work....we are closing one of our stores and consolidating into ours. It has made for a few changes. I work in a loan office in case you don't know. We had a manager leave and hired a new man who is "great" and I think he will turn the business around for us. I was always in charge of what they now call the SR accounts and along with that I am going to be doing all the work for any accounts who may be taken to court. I had my first experience this week in doing it and everything was 100% correct when we went to the court house. I was so impressed with myself. Anyway, it is going to be a challenge and one I look forward to.

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY

Gosh I don't know where the time goes. I just wanted to let you all know that I am still here but extremely busy. The holidays were hectic and crazy. My dad was in and out of the hospital but as of yesterday he got a clean bill of health and the doctor doesn't want to see him for 6 mos. We are working on moving them back to the east coast where most of our family are living. As it stands right now they will fly out early April as long as dad is doing ok.
As for knitting...last Sunday I spent my day organizing my new and old stash. I pulled out projects long forgotten and made them a priority. I figure I will get a jump start on my next year holidays. I made booga bags for all my grandaughters for Christmas this year and now I have orders for ones for their mothers. Oh, and also from my sister. I made her a pair of socks from Knit pics Memories...one of my favorite yarns and now I don't see them in their book. Just when you get to like something it disappears. Go figure. I have three pair of socks finished since Christmas and not sure who they will go to yet. I made two pair with Panda yarn and just love them. I am thinking my mother will get one pair and maybe my aunt the other. My other socks were from austermen step....not sure who will get these. I am now working on a pair of austermen step for my husband.
I also spent part of Sunday working on my quilt stash. I have two quilts that need to be backed and I organized my material so that I can start working on quilts for Christmas this year. I try to make one quilt each Christmas for one of my grandchildren. I believe this year the quilt will be for one of my grandsons.
My oldest grandaughter is also getting married this spring and I have to plan on what to do.....My mom does doilies and she asked her to make one for each table. They are so gorgeous. I guess she will have some sort of game and who ever wins at that table gets to keep the doily.
Well, I should get moving here as I have to take my shower and head off to work. Work...oh and I forgot to tell you we are just so busy and short handed that I am dog tired when I get home. I believe we have another person who will be leaving, not sure if it is a good thing or not yet. We did hire a gentlemen who is working out wonderful and takes alot of my load of of me. I usually knit at lunchtime and of course everyone has to check it out. Two of the fellas I work with want fingerless gloves....so maybe that will be my next project.

A Hectic Holiday

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and that the New Year will be happy and healthy for all.
On Sunday we took my dad to the hospital. He had been told a few days before that he had pneumonia and Sunday morning he had a hard time breathing so off we sent him. After some tests they told us he did indeed have pneumonia and also congestive heart failure. Now at 87 I wasn't shocked to hear this but the man went into a tailspin. Anyway, he spent the night and we took him home Christmas eve around 3pm. We had a very nice Christmas eve at my folks opening gifts, visiting with friends and relatives and of course eating more then we should have done....Christmas day hubby had to work until 3pm so we planned dinner at the folks instead of having dad go out. As it turned out dad was just not up to dinner and stayed in bed all day. He went to the doctor for a follow-up on Wednesday and last night he looked wonderful
He looked more like himself. Actually watching a football game.
I received a beautiful watch from hubby and of course some quilting supplies. I am still waiting for my harmony needles to come available on knitpics and last night I started my socks with the austerman step. I am really liking this yarn. Funny, I think I feel that way about all the yarns.

CHRISTMAS A LITTLE EARLY

I came home from work last night to find a package from littleknits. I am the proud owner of "Austerman Step" yarn. I have heard such wonderful things about it and had to try it out. So ,hubby will be getting a pair of socks right after the holidays. Speaking of hubby, he went out and did his shopping on Tues, lots of interesting packages under the tree.....he knows I have wanted more of the Harmony needles from knitpicks so he told me to just order them and consider it one of my gifts. I can't wait for them to arrive as they are the best dpn's I have tried.
I am sure everyone is busy with holiday shopping, cooking and planning so I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Looking forward to seeing everyones after holiday knitting.

BOXES MAILED, TREE UP ETC ETC

My last boxes have been mailed to the east coast and expected delivery is today and tomorrow...I have the tree up, shopping done and hubby decorated the outside....I finished all my socks and was happy to accomplish that......two quilts are on their way back east too.
I have been checking blogs and have decided to try to make myself a sweater, found the pattern in Interweve Knits....I am also going to get going on some winter hats and mittens as we are moving back east in the spring and I know I will need them next winter.....hubby and I are also looking forward to going snow shoeing next winter....we bought brand new snow shoes a few years ago , never been used......then we moved here to the desert.....still have them and we will use them.
Not much going on here other then getting ready for the holiday....We have a kitten which we didn't have last year and we were wondering how she would be with the tree...she is not minding it...loves to lay under it and once in awhile she will bat the bottom ornaments. Sadly we lost our other cat in November. She was just too sick and we couldn't see her suffer anymore. We miss her so much and one day we might get another. Right now we are just enjoying Sedona and not ready to replace Freedom. Of course we can't replace her but we can add another one day.

A BUSY BUT SAD WEEK

I have a dear friend and co-worker who is moving back to Michigan tomorrow morning. She has been staying with us for the past few months. Sadly her father passed away in July and her mother just wasn't handling it well. Her mother was hoping she would be able to move on and get back to life but it just doesn't seem to be working and my friend needs to go home and look after her mom. I know it was a hard decision on both their parts as it would be a new beginning but yet a close to a life here. We have filled so much into this past week....shopping, eating and just laughing. I know I will see her again soon but it is still hard to say goodbye. On the other hand, the holidays are fast approaching and I have been busy finishing up my projects so that I can send them on their way.
I have been looking towards new things to knit and sew and have a few projects in mind. One being a sweater for myself....I know, seems crazy but I have not made anything for myself in years.....I am looking forward to checking out some of the yarn sites and deciding which colors to use. I have some other news too....we have decided that we are going home to New England...we will put the mobile home on the market right after the new year and plan on being home in the spring. I look forward to being with my kids and grandkids. I have really had enough of this big city and long for the small towns and being with my family. Mom and Dad are also going back....we are hoping they will fly back right after the holidays and then we will drive back when we sell. another adventure awaits us.

IT'S BEEN AWHILE BUT I AM HERE

Gosh, I just don't know where the time has gone. I am trying to finish up some of my Christmas projects and have not accomplished much. I am so upset with myself...I made a booga bag and it felted too much....now it is small. Not to worry as I am looking at it and thinking it would be ideal for my 9 year old grandaughter. It was upsetting to see it shrink so much though.
I have some packages ready to mail off to the east coast and hope to do that this weekend. I have finished my two quilts and wish I could share the pictures with you all. One of them was done all black and white and it is gorgeous if I do say so myself.
Hubby and I are thinking we might just go in and buy a new computer as our gift to each other. We both want a new one and really there is nothing else we need or want. If we do then I will be a "real" blogger and post pictures....lol
I am reading all your posts even if I haven't posted myself and I have to say you are all doing great and beautiful projects....

SUNDAY

Well, it was a day. I had all intentions of knitting most of the day but things change. My girlfriend is staying with us for awhile and we decided to go over to one of the casinos and see what was what....I never go there but she had a card to swipe for gas .... you never pass up free gas....Anyway, while we were there I decided to get a card and see if I could win something....signing up for the card gave me what they call "free play"..I play on their money....$10.00 to be exact. On the first $5.00 I won $200.00. I was shocked...I then won a free carwash instead of gas.....oh well. So we head home and I spent my afternoon at the sewing machine and finished my son's quilt. I am so impressed. We ordered pizza when my husband came home and we watched the Sox's ...Yahoo they won the series....while busy watching the game I pulled out a pair of socks that I wanted to work on for my mother and got so involved with the game that I messed up on the pattern and sorta did my own pattern.....I really liked it and so I am not going to frog it......sometimes mistakes are good.
I am thinking if I can sneak my camera to work and figure out how to use the computer I just might be able to add some pictures....altho with my winnings my girlfriend said I should update my computer....decisions decisions....I really should but then we have the holidays coming so I am hoping you can all wait a little longer to see my work.
If any of you are in California or have family and friends there I hope they are safe from the fires. It is so awful. We do have some evening sunsets here with the smoke from Cally that are beautiful but don't like knowing why.......Keep them in your prayers and thoughts.

ANNIVERSARY

What a wonderful evening we had Monday. It was our 24th wedding anniversary and we went out for a great evening. We both love "Italian" food and went to our favorite little place. Monday night they were having dinner and entertainment. This wonderful piano player.....we had a great meal and my husband was full of surprises...He presented me with a gorgeous Dakota gold ring to match my wedding set. It has a little rose on it. The piano player asked if anyone had any requests and don't you know my husband asked if he knew the theme to Chariots of Fire. This came as such a surprise to me as our first date was to the movies to see Chariots of Fire. I was so shocked that he remembered. It was a wonderful anniversary and his last surprise was a very unusual card.....it was a Thank you card....thanking me for 24 of the most wonderful years.....He is a keeper.

I don't know where the time has gone. I am still here and busy knitting away. I have finished my grandaughters quilt and my sons is half done. As for the knitting I have at least 4 pairs of socks in the works...what do you call it single sock syndrome....I have decided to do the mates and get it done with. Last night I pulled out a sweater that I started months ago and worked on that....don't know why I put it away ,maybe because it was too hot to work on something that large. Anyway, I love the sweater and now I want to finish it and decide who the lucky person will be at Christmas.
Hubby and I are going out to dinner tonight and a show. It is our 24th wedding anniversary and boy it sure doesn't seem like 24 years have gone by. He is one special man.

WE'RE BACK

Yes, we are back. We really didn't want to come back but had to. Gosh, where to start.....we left the city early on Sunday morning and landed at the camp ground around noon. If you ever get out this way you must go to Catherdral Gorge. We loved it so much that we stayed the whole time right there. Our plan was to move on up the road but we just couldn't do it. We did go through Eagle canyon and had two golden eagles fly right out in front of us. We saw a blue heron on the lake and back at our camp we had a hawk swoop right down in front of us. And did we get pictures....NO, they are way to fast for the camera. We sat out at night by the campfire and looked at the stars..Paul tried to show me which was which but I just didn't see it.
We took a 4 mile hike up through the gorge and the views were just to awesome to describe. We headed up to Lehman Caves one day, that is at the Great Basin National Park. I do not do caves but hubby does. I took a little nature walk and sat at the coffee shop talking with a gentlemen who was headed to New Jersey. There was snow on the top of some of the mountains there. My hubby chatted with a women who was staying at the campground there and she said they had ice on the tent that morning.
Our mornings where so nice. Sun came up and warmed the area while we sat at the campsite drinking our coffee. Paul made some awesome breakfasts over the campfire and I would sit and do some knitting. Sadly I didn't do half the knitting I planned as I was too busy looking around and enjoying the views.
I did start the wrist warmers but now I need help from you.....I am not sure what it means when they say to use waste yarn.....knit the stitches and then put them back on the needle and knit again.....please send some help to me. I did work on my socks. I really love the Broadripple socks. Pattern is so easy to follow .....I also started a scarf...of course when I came home and read blogs I found out how much everyone has done and I am jealous.
All in all we had a wonderful time and really didn't want to come home. Hubby is off to work and I am going to do some sewing and knitting.

WE'RE OFF

We will be leaving early tomorrow morning for our camping trip. We are packed and ready and wish we could leave today. My poor hubby just watches as I get my knitting together for this trip. I have so many things I want to do and he just laughs and said "just bring everything" I don't think I could do that...way to many. I have decided on socks and wrist warmers. I started a pair of wrist warmers and I am liking these....I think they will be Christmas gifts to some grandaughters.
I will post when I get home and I am sure I will have lots to catch up on with reading all your posts. Have a good week and I will see you all next Saturday.

MY CAMPING PROJECTS

I have been busy all weekend trying to plan what to take camping.....I have changed my mind so many times and my knitting bag is getting fuller and fuller. I am going to finish my Broadripple socks and also my Breeze socks. That is the plan but I have also received my order from Knitpicks and started another pair of socks with my new Harmony needles.....I love them and want to order some more....you can never have enough needles or yarn right? so today while reading blogs everyone is into making fingerless mitts....so I had to hop on the band wagon and find a pattern...I just found one and printed it out ...I know other's are doing the same pattern but I just love it "Fetching" so I plan to start that while camping.
Gosh, I still need to decide what clothes to pack and everything else. Hubby has it all planned as far as the camping gear...we have a six man tent...yes, we rough it...I just need to be sure there is a shower where we go....we have it planned out and will be leaving Sunday morning around 6am. I am so ready to get going.
I will try to post again before leaving.

I had to work yesterday but after work we took my Mom and Dad out to dinner for their 65th wedding anniversary....we took them to an Italian restaurant , their favorite food....Mom had a cappucino and tarimasu for the first time in her life...do you believe it...she just loved it.
My Mom loves to crochet doilies...she does some beautiful work. I have them all over the house as do my daughters and grandaughter....when I ever get so I can post pictures I will show you some of her work. She just finished 15 small doilies and 2 large ones for my grandaughter's wedding reception...She had until May but she whipped right through them. She is now working on some for our craft fair in Nov and I gave her a knitted bookmark pattern to try out...she really doesn't like it as much as the knitting bother's her hands more then crocheting. I guess her fingers tend to "lockup" on her. Dad was funny last night...we all had doggy bags to bring home but he ate every bit of his...he went for his favorite...spaggetti and sausage where the rest of us tried something different...
I have my Broadripple socks half done. I just love the color...again wish I could post photo's...I am doing them in a strawberry color...lots of compliments on them. I am still waiting for my knitpicks order...can't wait...hope it gets here before our camping trip.
Ok, time to check some blogs and get ready for work...Oh, speaking of work...my boss bought a "condo" right on the Las Vegas Blvd.....9th floor , very impressive....he took me over there yesterday to show me the furniture that he and his wife picked out..they are planning on renting it.....all I can say is WOW. I told him they need to at least stay there for a few nights before renting it....just to enjoy the lights of the strip.....I told him that my Husband and I would rent it for our anniversary weekend in Oct...24 years it will be......he said we could just stay there but the problem is that you need a security code to get in the joint...He could get us in and then come get us the next day or so but we couldn't leave as we couldn't get back in....ah the rich and idle.....lol...I actually would love to spend one night there...wish you could see the house these people live in...but all in all they are so down to earth...Love the two of them...Ok, time to get my act together...I smell my coffee calling me.

I have been busy with my socks and making some table runners for our craft fair. I am also getting busy for camping and trying to decide which yarn and patterns to take. A BUSY DAY BUT NOTHING ACCOMPLISHED

Gosh, what a day I had....Hubby and I have Wednesday's off together and it was an adventure yesterday. He is trying to find a piece for his camera so he can put it on his telescope. Now when it comes to things like this I just do not understand what it is about.....anyway, we head out to the camera store and seeing as it was next door to a Bagel shop we decided on coffee and a bagel....ouch....very pricey...the bagel was 99 cents but when you add cream cheese and have it toasted it was 2.29....I guess we won't do that again. So we hit the camera store..no luck...Girl wasn't even helpful. So we head miles down the road to find the next shop and no luck there...that poor girl should have been working in a fast food joint as she was clueless. So we decided to try Circut City at least they might have an idea of what it is we need. Very helpful fella and he told us of this old time camera shop (way up by where we first started out). By now it is lunch time and we find it near a very nice lunchshop ........just sandwichs but very good....now the lady at the camera store is very helpful but we find out the camera is too old and that they don't make the T ring anymore ....company went out of business....she suggested e-bay....now why didn't I think of that.......so when we finally reached home I went on e-bay and we believe we might have found what he needs.
On to my knitting now....I had a nice evening of knitting and started a pair of ripple socks....real pretty pink color....I think I am going to like these.....I have been trying to figure out which knitting projects to take when we go camping the end of the month and I am thinking I will take my Tofutie yarn and also try making another pair of Breeze socks with some yarn that I just ordered from Knit Picks...speaking of which...I also ordered some Harmony needles. Can't wait to get them.
Ok, time for me to get moving and get ready for work. Hubby off today and is taking my Dad to the doctor then coming by to pick up my car so he can replace a light....I have only one brake light...not good.

NEVER ENOUGH TIME

I just never seem to have enough time lately to do all that I want to do. I always start stressing myself out around this time of year. The holidays are coming soon and I keep thinking I have lots of time. I did finish 5 pair of socks and 4 booga bags. I ran out yesterday and bought some yarn to finish up the next booga bag. I also started a pair of socks for my dad. He is always complaining his feet are cold so I thought it would be a great gift for him. I am also working on the "Breeze" socks. Yes, I thought I would try to finish them up as they are so pretty. I started them a few weeks ago and then set them aside to work on my other socks. I was reading Tina's blog and love the felted wine bag so now I have the urge to try that. I have a cousin who would just flip for it.
On the home front...we are planning our vacation. We start it on Sept 30th and we are going to take our camping gear and head out. We have decided to start with Cathedral Gorge and work our way up to Pioche NV. Very secluded and out of the city. We went through our things yesterday to see what we needed to repair or replace and everything is in great condition. We use to camp most weekends when we lived on the East coast but haven't been able to do any camping here in the last three years. We are both looking so forward to it. I am planning on which knitting projects to take along with a book to read and hubby is looking forward to taking his telescopes out in the desert. Of course yesterday we had to sit in the truck and figure just how to pack his telescopes with the camping gear so that they don't get damaged. We are both getting antsy now to get going.

Yes, I have more socks done. I am loving the evenings after I come home from work where I can just sit and knit. I am working on Christmas projects. Not sure who is gettting what yet. I think tonight I will pick up a sweater that I started sometime ago for my son. My husband wants me to make him another pair of socks. I think my next pair is going to be the Broadripple. I love the Dublin Bay and keep looking at my yarn stash and have just the color for those but the Broadripple seems to be calling me.
I finished my grandaughter's quilt and started one for my son. Wish I could show it to everyone as the colors are gorgeous....pinks and purples with some yellow and blue. Lots of butterflies too.
Hubby and I both have tomorrow off, which is unusual for him but we are going out for breakfast and take a trip up towards the mountains. Yes, we do have them here in Vegas much to everyone's surprise.
Family back on the east coast are having a "pig roast" today and I sure wish I could be there.....Maybe next year....

A CRAFTY DAY

Yes, I spent yesterday doing all sorts of things. I decided early in the morning to just treat myself to doing whatever it was I wanted to do. Soooo I knit and sew.
I started working on a pair of socks and then decided to get my act together and get back to doing some quilting. I started a quilt months ago for my granddaughter and yesterday I finished the top of it. I then pulled out material that I bought to make one for my son. His is going to be black and white. He is into music and I bought material awhile back that had music notes on it. Anyway, I decided to put it aside after I cut it out so I could get back to my socks and watch the Nextel race. But, it was rained out....so back to the sewing machine I went. I have some of the blocks done on his now. When hubby came home from work we needed to run to the store to pick up a birthday card and gift for my aunt (we were going to my Mom's for dinner that night and celebrating Auntie's 82nd birthday). While at the store I ran over to check out material. (it is an addiction like yarn) and I came home with some material to work on another quilt for another granddaughter. But, last night I did manage to finish one sock that I had started. I will take the yarn to work and will get the other sock started on my lunch hour. I am really enjoying the fact that I did so much crafting yesterday. Totally relaxing...

HELP ME PLEASE

I started the "Monkey" socks....I need help....I don't know what it is I am doing wrong but on the lace pattern....round 3------what is yo2???? I had to sit in the doctors office today for two hours while hubby went to see about his shoulder...They ended up finally giving him the cortisone shot...Keep your fingers crossed that it works...anyway, I got stuck on this row and I know I probably know what to do but do you think it would come to me...NOT....so help me anyone who has done this sock...

SWEATER AND SOCKS

I have been busy working on a pair of Breeze socks...my problem is that I love to knit during my lunchtime at work but I have a co-worker who for whatever reason likes to come in and "talk" with me while I am knitting...now with Breeze socks I feel I need to keep track of what I am doing...do you think she understands this??? NO, she keeps right on talking...she has even suggested that I teach her how to knit..now mind you I wouldn't mind but I feel that I will be doing her knitting and not mine...I honestly don't think she has it in her to knit...
My other project is my granddaughter's sweater...I am almost done with it...I could finish it tonight but decided to catch up on my blogging and emailing...I believe my next pair of socks will be the Monkey socks...I have just the right person for these in mind....
Oh, and I sent my daughter Pamela a package for her birthday and I hope she will share it with all the readers when it arrives..

Gosh, it has been sometime since I had the time to post...I have been busy and not sure what I am doing to be so busy....I did finish two pair of socks and have a sweater almost done for my grandaughter for Christmas...just have the sleeves left...one day I hope to have my new computer and be able to show everyone yes, I do knit.....It has been very HOT here so no outside yard work.
I am going to start a pair of Breeze socks today....hope I can figure them out...I hear that they are easy to do and they sure look nice in the pictures..

DUBLIN BAY SOCKS FINISHED

Well, it took awhile but they are finished and I do like them....I am working on two more pair of socks right now and also one more booga bag. I did find a shell pattern for my peach cotton yarn and that will hit the needles this week.
Not much going on here...weather is hot and hubby is working terrible hours so I don't see much of him...he is either at work or sleeping. Wednesday is our day off and we are going to a quilt exibit....looking forward to it and hoping it will get me moving on finishing my quilt.

What Happen to my Booga Bags

Well, I am not really sure...I used the same needles, same yarn and directions and the last two that I made came out tooooooo small...but, a friend of mine said they would make nice cosmetic bags and my husband thought they would be nice for my mom and aunt to keep their bingo daubers in.....so who knows what I will do with them..I am now working on another one and we will see what happens when I felt it.
It has been very hot here so no outside activities for me....I did go to bingo this morning and didn't win as usual but I did hit $200.00 on a machine..wish I could say it would be going towards yarn and such but I need tires for my car so there it goes.
My daughter in Maine is down visiting with my daughter in Massachusetts and it sounds like they are having a fun time...sure wish I were there girls.
That is about it for now...I am also working on socks and oh I printed out a pattern for a summer shell and might start that tonight...Happy knitting and

CATCHING UP ON THINGS

Gosh I don't know where the time goes...I haven't posted anything in awhile. I just want to let everyone know that I received a package from Tina (tinainwonderland) and it was just gorgeous...she added a little thank you gift of some calgon lotion and it is so yummy smelling...I used it today too.
On the knitting front I am working on a pair of Tofutsies socks..I have read where some people don't care for this yarn but, I have to say I really like it...I am also working on my third booga bag....plus numerous other projects that really need to be completed. I am great for starting something like socks and sweaters and such and then see some yarn that I MUST try and start something new...I have made a promise to myself that I would finish some of these socks..so that is my goal.
My hubby is out trying to get his telescope "scoped" in or whatever it is he does..he is so into this telescope and stars, moon and planets now...last night I was trying to finish some socks and he kept coming in for me to come out and take a look...sometimes I see what he sees but other times I just say I do...of course he knows that and then kids me...right now we have a friend staying with us for a few weeks and she is out helping him.
We have another plumming problem that needs to be taking care of this week...our water in the tub is constantly running as is the one in the kitchen sink so now it is time to repair them..
Oh, and on my hubby's "bursitis" well, he went to the doctor on Wed as it wasn't getting any better after all the therapy and guess what.....the nurse was suppose to send him a referal in MARCH for a cortisone shot and she never sent it...our doctor thought it had been taken care of...so yesterday he went and it is so bad that they put him on Prednisone first and on the 11th he goes back for the shot...the pain doesn't seem to be as bad now that he is on this medication. The doctor told him yesterday he could have given him the shot but they didn't know just where to put it as he was so swollen...don't you just wonder what they are doing??
Ok, time for some knitting...I will check back on all of you tomorrow..

NEEDLES AND YARN, NEEDLES AND YARN

Well today was rather a fun day. I started my day with a quick trip for blood work as I have a doctor appointment next week...after blood work hubby and I went for breakfast...we then decided we would run over and play a quick bingo before heading out to do some errands. No win at bingo as usual...but I did stop by a little penny machine (Wheel of Fortune) and slipped $5.00 into it.....I never play penny machines but thought well I will try....I am a nickle poker machine player....anyway, I got to spin the wheel and up came 10,000 x my bet....I wasn't sure what it was but when it was done spinning it showed $103.00 so I cashed that puppy right out and went on my merry way to the yarn store......I came home with some double pointed needles...Crystal Palace, size 0....and some Tofutsie yarn and some yarn for another booga bag. I then treated my husband to a nice Mexican dinner at a new restaurant that had just opened up...I am not crazy for that type of food but we gave it a try...our waitress was very helpful and I explained that I didnt' like anything too spicy...I had a wonderful meal as did my husband...we shared a dessert and I even had a Tequila Sunrise....very good I must say....
Now it is time for me to go try my new needles and my new yarn....not sure which pattern yet or which yarn as I am wanting to give my new Panda Wool a try too.

KNIT, RIP, KNIT, RIP, KNIT, RIP

It seems these days this is all I have been doing...I was almost finished with my Dublin Bay socks and last night I had to rip them out about ten rows...that is what I get for watching "America's got talent" or some mindless show like it....so I pulled out the yarn for my next Booga Bag and cast on for it...I so want to start another pair of socks but seeing as I have 4 pair going right now I have made the decision to finish at least two pair before moving on to another....I am looking for another summer shell to work up with some peach cotton yarn that I have had forever..
I have tomorrow off and after my doctor appointment I am hitting the book store as that is another of my favorite things to do...check out books, have a cup of coffee while there etc etc....I might even hit the yarn store even though I really don't need more yarn...but you never know what might be waiting for me there ..right?
