Yes, we are back. We really didn't want to come back but had to. Gosh, where to start.....we left the city early on Sunday morning and landed at the camp ground around noon. If you ever get out this way you must go to Catherdral Gorge. We loved it so much that we stayed the whole time right there. Our plan was to move on up the road but we just couldn't do it. We did go through Eagle canyon and had two golden eagles fly right out in front of us. We saw a blue heron on the lake and back at our camp we had a hawk swoop right down in front of us. And did we get pictures....NO, they are way to fast for the camera. We sat out at night by the campfire and looked at the stars..Paul tried to show me which was which but I just didn't see it.
We took a 4 mile hike up through the gorge and the views were just to awesome to describe. We headed up to Lehman Caves one day, that is at the Great Basin National Park. I do not do caves but hubby does. I took a little nature walk and sat at the coffee shop talking with a gentlemen who was headed to New Jersey. There was snow on the top of some of the mountains there. My hubby chatted with a women who was staying at the campground there and she said they had ice on the tent that morning.
Our mornings where so nice. Sun came up and warmed the area while we sat at the campsite drinking our coffee. Paul made some awesome breakfasts over the campfire and I would sit and do some knitting. Sadly I didn't do half the knitting I planned as I was too busy looking around and enjoying the views.
I did start the wrist warmers but now I need help from you.....I am not sure what it means when they say to use waste yarn.....knit the stitches and then put them back on the needle and knit again.....please send some help to me. I did work on my socks. I really love the Broadripple socks. Pattern is so easy to follow .....I also started a scarf...of course when I came home and read blogs I found out how much everyone has done and I am jealous.
All in all we had a wonderful time and really didn't want to come home. Hubby is off to work and I am going to do some sewing and knitting.

It sounds like you guys had a great time! I don't know what the waste yarn means either, I have never done a pattern that calls for it.
Waste yarn means "not the yarn the project actually uses." Often a pattern will tell you to cast on using waste yarn. For socks, I use a slick yarn in a different color, for worsted-weight stuff I often use dishcloth cotton just because it's so often in reach.
From the stitches of the waste yarn, you start knitting with the yarn the project actually uses, and you knit knit knit, and what happens next can depend. If you're doing a turned hem, they'll ask you to take the waste yarn out and put the upside-down stitches that are freed as you remove it on another needle (i recommend a smaller sized needle, it's often easier), then you'll knit them all together in interesting and complicated ways.
On a lace shawl, you might be asked to cast on using waste yarn and when you're done you'll unzip/remove the waste yarn, pick up the live stitches, and then knit them into the border.

I'm so glad you had a nice vacation! I bet it must have been beautiful out there where y'all were camping.
And for the waste yarn, yep, what Liz said!! Just cast on with any ole yarn of about the same gauge, then switch to the yarn that you intend to make the project out of.

Thanks for the nice comment on my picture. I actually did frame a copy to give to a friend and it came out really well, much to my surprise. I am really enjoying my new camera and finding that I actually CAN keep my thumb out of the shot if I try hard...and, if not, there is always cropping ;-)
